Tekelec Switching Portfolio Powers Frontier's
New One-Number Service, Frontier1

Morrisville, N.C. — — Tekelec (NASDAQ: TKLC), a leading developer of high-performance network applications for next-generation fixed, mobile and packet networks, today announced that Frontier Communications, part of Citizens Communications Company (NYSE:CZN), has deployed multiple Tekelec switching products to support the launch of Frontier1. Frontier1 allows access to multiple communication devices using one phone number and one voice mail account. Frontier selected the Tekelec 9000 Distributed Switching Solution (DSS), Tekelec 8000 Converged Media Gateway (WMG), and Tekelec 6000 Internet Protocol Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) Application Server to create a distributed switching network with enhanced applications that enable the new service.

Frontier, one of the nation's leading rural local exchange telephone companies, delivers local, long-distance, television and Internet services in 23 states and serves more than 2.1 million access lines and approximately 390,000 high-speed Internet subscribers. Frontier1, its newest value-added product, links a customer's cell phone and home phone with one number and one voice mail account. The customer can retain his or her preferred wireless service provider, eliminating the need to change cell phone numbers, calling plans, business cards and more. Frontier is one of the first carriers in the nation to provide seamless switching between home and cell phones using the Tekelec 6000 for Find-Me, Simultaneous Ring, Call Jump, Voice Mail and Web Portal services that link subscribers' home, home office, cell phone and Internet via one phone number.

"Frontier1 delivers a next-generation communications experience, allowing customers to enjoy increased mobility with the convenience of one phone number and one voice mail account for all devices, plus all the features they need and want," said Pete Hayes, executive vice president, Sales, Marketing and Business Development for Frontier. "We selected Tekelec based on our strong prior business relationship and the company's ability to provide numerous functions in our current network, to support our long-term network evolution plan and to interface with Frontier proprietary technology ."

The Tekelec 6000 is a scalable, standards-based solution that delivers a variety of revenue-generating integrated applications and works with a wide range of network equipment and protocols. With the Tekelec 6000, Frontier can reliably support a near unlimited number of residential, business, and mobile customers with its own secure configurations and customized feature sets. The Tekelec 6000 suite of IMS-ready voice/video/multimedia applications and services delivers a rich set of line-side and enhanced telephony features for IP networks as part of Tekelec's switching portfolio. Service providers, wholesale providers and system integrators can offer Hosted PBX, IP Centrex and/or Business Trunking services to business customers and Broadband VoIP services to residential customers in addition to providing integrated mobile services to all types of customers. The Tekelec 9000 platform is an IMS-enabled Media Gateway Control Function (MGCF) and Media Gateway (MGW) for connectivity to the public switched telephone network (PSTN) as well as native Class 4 and 5 services for traditional switching applications. The T9000 supports both time division multiplexing (TDM) and IP architectures as well as distributed gateway functionality. Jay Whitehurst, President and General Manager of the Tekelec Switching Solutions Group, said, "The Tekelec switching platform delivers the flexibility and scalability an ILEC like Frontier needs in order to provide the advanced features and services that are critical to attract and retain subscribers. Tekelec continues its leadership and commitment in switching by delivering a portfolio of innovative solutions and quick time-to-market features that enable operators to evolve differentiated services in a competitive marketplace."
