Nokia Siemens Networks has expanded its portfolio of energy efficient Smart Site solutions with the introduction of SiteStar, a cooling cabinet that can increase battery life by three times, and reduce the electricity consumed for cooling batteries at a base station site by up to 95%. SiteStar will be commercially available in Q3 of 2009. SiteStar is ideal for countries with extreme climatic conditions and particularly for emerging markets where power supply can be scarce making battery back-up essential.

Subscribers of SFR, France’s leading communications service provider, will soon enjoy real time multimedia applications, such as virtual office. Earlier this month SFR in collaboration with Nokia Siemens Networks became the first to showcase such applications in France on a live 3G network with a 14 Mbps mobile broadband connection. SFR has selected a radio solution from Nokia Siemens Networks which will enable the migration of SFR’s mobile backhaul network to all IP (Internet Protocol), enabling the operator to increase capacity while keeping costs under control.

Nokia Siemens Networks has secured a EUR 250 million loan facility from the European Investment Bank for the development of its multimode Radio Access network technology.
The EUR 250 million facility will provide financial support for R&D in Europe which will build on the success of Nokia Siemens Networks’ multiradio technology platform. Vodafone Essar has completed a rapid service expansion into seven new regions across India. People living in or traveling to Assam, Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Madhya Pradesh, North East and Orissa will now be able to use services provided by India’s second largest GSM operator. Nokia Siemens Networks, Vodafone Essar’s existing infrastructure partner in 12 regions, undertook the new network roll out in just ten months.

Sonera continues its accelerated turbo 3G build-out program by introducing mobile broadband services in the 900 MHz frequency. Nokia Siemens Networks and Huawei are the network vendors for the 3G expansion program in the following years.
“Our customers expect the traditional Sonera network quality where ever they are. By investing in the latest technology we can offer mobile broadband to a growing number of customers in a cost-efficient way”, says Esa Rautalinko, CEO of TeliaSonera Finland.

Belgacom TV, the leading Belgian IP television service provider added 250,000 new customers since January 2008, representing an increase of 45 percent over 2007. The company’s success is driven by the implementation of an end-to-end IPTV platform from Nokia Siemens Networks that introduced HDTV (high definition television), VoD (video on demand), PVR (personal video recorder) and interactive services for both new and existing Belgacom TV subscribers.
