Pakistan's IT industry growing leaps and bounds, claims PSEB
(Pakistan Monitoring Desk) - Feb 20, 2007

Mr. Yusuf Hussain, Managing Director, Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) said that IT Industry in Pakistan is rapidly growing at the rate of more than 57% per annum. He expressed these remarks while addressing a press conference on Tuesday in Marriott Hotel Islamabad.

According to him IT Industry in Pakistan is growing by leaps and bounds and we are having more than 125 ISO and CMMI certified companies which is the biggest achievement. Besides 950 companies are registered with PSEB and they are doing tremendously great job to bring Pakistan’s IT Industry in the limelight nationally and internationally. After India, Pakistan is next in line among other outsourcing countries because of competitive HR and Infrastructure cost. International IT Research Companies like IDC and Lehman Brothers also assert that Pakistan is prospective IT outsourcing destination.

He urged the parents to encourage their children to join the IT field for their future study rather than going for traditional education like commerce and other subjects. Marketing & PR, Industry HR Development, IT Park, Strategy & Research, Industry Finance, Public Policy & Facilitation are identified as strategic areas of PSEB, which need more work.

Analysis:

It seems that Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) is getting proactive now in not just doing but also in letting people know what PSEB is working on. It is a good step by PSEB to hold media briefings (press conferences etc) as in this way general public as well as investors gain more awareness about Pakistan's IT industry. The new leadership in PSEB is being very active in improving the board's image

PSEB is also partnering with different organizations and new collaborations are being formed in this regard. Recently PSEB in collaboration with Microsoft and Agitavi Research Corporation launched "Software Business Accelerator" program aiming to help out software houses in Pakistan

Pakistan's IT and telecom industry is experiencing a boom this year as more and more companies are entering into this industry. It is expected that PSEB will improve its role in country's IT infrastructure and business development which will further facilitate IT entrepreneurs, investors and general public.
