GENIE - Backup Manager Version: 5.0
M. Khizer Iftikhar

To avoid scenarios of data loss, there are a few measures which can be taken. One of them and the safest one is to have regular backups of data. I want to introduce you a great backup software. This one is known as Genie Backup Manager. This software is a powerful and versatile backup tool capable of just about any backup task you can dream about. Unlike Norton Ghost or Turbo Backup etc., this program has more custom backup options available than any other backup software application. The program does require some basic technical experience to browse quickly through its navigation and custom installs.

What does it offer?
Genie Backup Manager offers a variety of needy features, including the ability to backup emails (only in Microsoft Outlook 2000, 2002, 2003), the registry (your computer's index)- it does not backup your operating system as Norton ghost does. It does backup Internet Explorer settings, MSN, Windows settings, all of your Favorites settings and etc. It is believed to back up more types of data than any other backup software in the market.

Also, you can encrypt your backup with a password on 128 bit data encryption for security reasons. If you do not want that, it's upon you as in this way any one can browse your files.

Genie Backup Manager can also backup data to remote FTP locations (so that you can access your backup over the Internet), to DVD or CD, or to a set of media with disk spanning (convenient for unmonitored backups). Unlike some of the backup softwares available, Genie Backup Manager provides you a tremendous data storage versatility, including the task to pick a new location for any backup. Some softwares do not have this kind of option and you have to reinstall the backup and specify a new locality for it and re-backup it. Itchy isn't it?

Like they say 'Nothing is Perfect in this world', I think that's quite true. In this software you can specify exactly what you want to backup; but if you want to backup everything at once, you must select the sections individually; that's time-consuming! There would have been a convenience for the user if they had included a one-click, system-wide backup button and system recovery tools.

System Requirements
Windows 98(SE), Windows ME, Windows XP Professional and Home Edition, Windows 2000 Professional, Windows NT Workstation 4.0

Is it User Friendly?
Genie Backup Manager like other softwares has easy, simple, short setup without any long waits. It's opening screen is clear, easy to understand, but due to its more customization options, as compared to other softwares, it becomes a bit technical which creates a complicated environment for the user.

Go for it!
When it comes to backing up and restoring computer data, I personally think that I found Genie Backup Manager to be the most flexible and secure to use. The protection offered by Genie made me feel that my data is completely safe and should disaster strike, I could restore all of my data without any complication.
