During 2010, TeliaSonera expects to offer its customers 4G coverage in the 25 largest municipalities in Sweden alongside the four largest municipalities in Norway, including Oslo. Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERIC) has been selected as the sole supplier of the common core network as well as providing LTE radio access. Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued Show Cause Notice to initiate proceedings against M/s PTCL on showing poor quality of service, based on the results of the joint Quality of Service (QoS) Survey conducted recently by PTA. PTA has given 30 days time to PTCL to submit the reply. Based on the outcome PTA, under the Telecom Act, reserves the right to proceed legally.

President of Pakistan inaugurated the fully operational Information Technology Park Shaheen Complex Lahore on January 16, 2010 in Governor House Lahore. PSEB, Shaheen Foundation and MOIT jointly arranged a post inauguration session on January 19, 2010 at Shaheen Complex Lahore at 05:00 pm. This session was chaired by Federal Secretary IT and leaders from IT & Telecom Industry were present to interact directly with MoIT and PSEB and discussed future IT plans. A tour to the facility was also organized for honorable guests.

Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) today announced that it has been selected by Etisalat, the UAE’s leading telecommunications service provider, to speed up the deployment of its nationwide fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) network. In this multi-million Euro deal, Etisalat will utilize Alcatel-Lucent’s award-winning gigabit passive optical network (GPON) technology to connect 50,000 households and business customers.

Association of Physicians of Pakistani-descent of North America (APPNA), a US based professional association has expressed its willingness to support tele-medicine efforts in Pakistan. This was revealed by a visiting delegation of APPNA in Pakistan. According to a DAWN report, Dr. Samad (President APPNA) said that his association will sponsor a team of Pakistani American physicians who will visit Pakistan on regular basis to conduct surgeries in different disciplines which will help the citizens to save the cost of expensive surgeries.

“We will also develop a medical college and a hospital in the capital city on the lines of international standards besides extending support in the field of telemedicine’s” said Dr Samad.
